The Television, Monthly. 2/27~4/2 Ohno and Aiba: Colorful Soup to Warm Them Up!

Aiba: I want to make Kabocha (Japanese Pumpkin) and Minestrone soup!
Ohno: Let's make them “Fancy Cafe” style.

Let's talk about “Fancy Cafe” style cooking!
Aiba: The color of Beet Soup is amazing. What type of flavor might it have?
Ohno: You've piqued my interest.
(*they both take a drink of Beet Soup*)
Aiba: Maybe any guess is fine for this particular flavor. (laughs)
Ohno: Ahahahaha. (laughs) It would be hard to explain. It's not bad, it's just, what can you say about this?
Aiba: But it's delicious, isn't it? It's good, but I can't find the word for it. (laughs)
Ohno. Yes. I like this type of flavor.
Aiba: There is a special hint of garlic flavor, but then the feeling that you're eating something beet flavored hits you.
Ohno: But no one can really explain it. (laughs) It's a difficult flavor. Let's eat the soups served with bread here too! This is so fancy!
Aiba: Eating this is gonna be so much fun!
Ohno: Aaah!
Aiba: What's the matter?
Ohno: The corn soup is sweet! This is a flavor I am familiar with! (laughs) This is so good, seriously. This is the sweetest corn soup I have ever had.
Aiba: It really is sweet. I'm going to try the spinach soup. Itadakimasu (Let's eat)! ...Ah!
Ohno: How is it?
Aiba: It has a very light flavor.
Ohno: It really does. But the balance is perfect. I wouldn't change a thing.
Aiba: Out of these three, they're all delicious.
Ohno: I love soup.
Aiba: Any soup can be fancy if we make it that way.
Ohno: When we made doughnuts and pancakes those times too it came out really fancy.
Aiba: OhOhOhOhOh! That's right! If we both studied a little bit more on fancy cooking, we could open a cafe together, right?
Ohno: I think we could.
Aiba: Doughnuts, pancakes, soup. That menu sounds super fancy. (laughs)
Ohno: We could also do breads and pies, too. But this time, our level of fanciness with these soups has surprised me.
Aiba: If we make it by hand, the menu will have that fashionable homemade feel. The corn soup would be especially easy to do. I think from now on I will make it at home.
Ohno. I think it would be good to use a mixer. And today... we are eating soups with bread, but maybe at home I would be eating soup with rice. I like the combination of soup and rice, personally.
Aiba: Ah, I can see why.
Ohno: White rice is also good, but buttered rice would be great.
Aiba: That sounds top notch. (laughs) Out of these three soups, which is your favorite? I like the Beet Soup! It was my first time tasting anything like that, but it has a light, easy-to-eat flavor and it was delicious.
Ohno: I like the Spinach Soup. I think it will pair well with rice!
Aiba: Got it! I really like Spinach Curry, so I think today's Spinach Soup had a less powerful flavor than I am used to.
Ohno: But spinach is so nutritious. I eat lots of it because I imagine it helps me get lots of nutrients.
Aiba: Yes. I always think the best foods are both delicious and nutritious.
Ohno: I also wanna try making Kabocha Soup. I love Kabocha, but I eat just a little bit of it and I feel full. Plus it is hard to cook with, right?
Aiba: I totally understand! (laughs)
Ohno: My stomach gets so full so fast. (laughs) But, if I use it to make soup, maybe I can enjoy more of it, which would be great.
Aiba: Okay, so, at our cafe, Let's serve Kabocha Soup. (laughs) I also really like the flavor of tomato, so let's have a Minestrone Soup as well. What else would we need to serve? What would be our main menu?
Ohno: Um... I am not sure.
Aiba: Maybe pasta, pizza, or something like that?
Ohno: If we have those items, it will be perfect.
